PATIO POOL PREMIERE

CROWD JAMS WESTWARD HO POOL OPENING
The Arizona Republic
July 15,1950
The Westward Ho Hotel patio was packed Thursday night for the grand opening of the patio swimming pool which included a water show, a fashion show, and a television show.

People stood on flower beds, hung onto window sills, jammed shoulder to shoulder in the enclosure, and filled every porch around the patio.

The best estimate of the crowd in the limited area was 4,000 people.

In Hollywood style, under hot spot lights, models paraded swimming and beach attire, while the Patty Gaal Aquadettes presented an excellent demonstration of fancy diving.

The apparatus of KPHO-TV attracted as much attention as the entertainment itself when the big lights went on and technicians trained their cameras on the scenes. Many watched the show on television sets scattered liberally throughout the patio.

Governor Garvey dedicated the new swimming pool, heading a party of business and civic leaders including John B. Mills, president of the Westward Ho.
